About Me

I'm Brix Ian Marcellana, a Computer Engineering Student

From deconstructing to reconstructing toys and electronic devices, engineering was a passion that I enjoyed dearly. Learning software drove my dream even further, as more options grew certain ideas felt more achievable. Computer Engineering to me is more than just a profession, it solves problems, saves lives, and connects people. It allows me to bring my ambitious ideas into reality. As technology becomes increasingly more complex and popular, this allows me the opportunity to expand my skill set and apply it to the world. I am extremely excited about working with people in the field, as I try to learn and improve upon my work. I am thrilled in joining the collaborative process in ensuring a final product that can dominate the competition.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering

I applied to University of Saskatchewan and took the 4-year bachelor of engineering program in the fall of 2019. I joined the Computer/Electrical Engineering discipline (CME/EE) and specialized in computer software during my final years.

Experience

Currently

AM/PM Service - Computer Hardware Technician

At AM/PM, i developed skills necessary to work in the the tech industry. I fixed and mintained devices from multiple retail companies and banks. Portfolio

My Most Recent Projects:

Paramotor Phone App

This phone application was used to solve the paramotorists issue of have to manually log their flights on a logbook. This was programmed using flutter with firebase as the main database for the app. This also included an authentication system, google map api, weather api, timer, note system, etc.

UVM Testbench

The testbench created for this project was used to verify a device called an Xswitch. The DUT tested had a queue (fifo) mechanism where both its memory and outputs were tested. Two agents were used in this project, one for the upstream inputs/outputs and one for the downstream. The testbench included features such as clocking blocks, coverage, assertion-based verification, a complete virtual scoreboard, and regression tests with compiled coverage using bash.

IoT Security Device

In this project a Raspberry Pi 3 was used as a link to connect the motion sensors connected to its GPIO ports to the cloud. The purpose of this device is to be placed on the front door and activate an alarm whenever it detects any suspicious activity. The program in the cloud contains a machine learning algorithm that determines whether an activity is deemed to be suspicious.

Controllable LED Lights

The LED is constructed to prevent the issue of having to manually readjust the position of the lights in order to display a different message. In this project my team and I created a 7x19 grid of LEDs and used the WS2811 driver to individually control each LED. The microcontroller(ESP32) used was connected to the grid using 19 GPIO ports. A phone app was also created to modify the lights through Wi-Fi.

PlanetCord

PlanetCord is a full stack website that uses react to control and display the frontend. It uses couchdb to the nest the information. The backend uses nodeJS express to communicate with the front end. It has a login mechanism where the user can customize their own profile. The user can send posts to each other and read comments for each posts.

Play Now!
Chess Game Website

This is a personal project that was completed using HTML, CSS, and Javascript. This chess game has multiple core functionalities that were implemented. These include the initialization of the board, the movement of each piece, the checking for mate mechanism, the restricted moves for each piece, turn control for each player, castling, promotion, enPassant, etc.
